What is Quality of Service and do you need it?
QoS gives voice traffic a clear path when the network is busy, and whether you need it depends on whether peak activity actually affects calls. It does not create more bandwidth. It helps ensure that a time-sensitive call is not delayed behind a large download or noncritical application traffic.
QoS is helpful, particularly in offices with shared internet use. However, it must be configured correctly and matched to the equipment in use. A policy on one switch will not solve congestion elsewhere in the path. Some organizations have newer managed network equipment that can support appropriate voice prioritization with little effort. Others may need a network upgrade before adding dozens of phones.
For a smaller office with light data usage, complicated QoS settings may not be necessary. A good assessment avoids selling complexity where it does not solve a real problem.
Are Wi-Fi phones and softphones reliable for business calling?
They can be, if you treat them as a separate decision and test where people actually work. A wired desk phone generally has a more predictable connection than a Wi-Fi device. That does not make Wi-Fi unsuitable for business calling. It means wireless coverage, capacity, roaming behavior, and device management should be tested in the real environment.
